The armed, checked and double-checked RDS-3 bomb was placed on a ground handling dolly, carefully draped in tarpaulins to disguise its outline and slowly towed to the parking ramp where the Tu-4A was waiting. The ramp itself was surrounded by a tall fence and had a separate checkpoint at the only entrance which was the taxiway. The refuelled aircraft was parked over a special trench lined with concrete; this was necessary because the bomber's ground clearance was insufficient to accommodate the bomb on its ground handling dolly.
